What is this place? Well, in my Starfinder Beginner's Box, in the Heroes' Handbook, there was this list in the Inspiration chapter:
This blog is about converting the Star Frontiers setting to the Starfinder RPG. First up, I do not work for Wizards or Paizo, I do not speak for them, and those two games are their IP. I am doing this just as a fan-project for those interested in converting the settings or coming up with a unique campaign.
Now given the nature of Starfinder I am going to default to Starfinder for a lot of the assumptions about technology and how things work. I am not doing a direct conversion here, but providing a way to play in the Frontier setting with all of your Starfinder stuff. So this is less of a "total conversion mod" than it is a setting transplant, and making the Frontier work with the Starfinder rules and some of the unique quirks and assumptions of that setting.
We are assuming all the Starfinder races are present, along with magic, fantasy creatures, and anything you want to pull in from your Pathfinder 1e books. Why? Well, I have a shelf full of unused Pathfinder 1e books and this project lets me use them while I migrate my fantasy campaign to Pathfinder 2e. I can use all six bestiaries as monsters for the game, and that makes me happy my books are getting used.
Yes, this will be a "high mojo" game with magic being introduced into the Frontier, and some of the Frontier technologies will be rolled back (most notably, space travel) and replaced with the Starfinder version. We will also be advancing the Frontier timeline by 300 years to give the cultures a chance to mix and develop.
Note the Frontier side of this meet-up will not be affected by the great mental reset the Starfinder side experienced, and the Frontier will be the giant "contiguous area of space" sort of campaign area to play in, while the Starfinder side remains its nebulous "stars anywhere" and "no starmap" self. So this supports the "random planet of something somewhere" type of play that Starfinder has, while giving you a great area of space with a lot of established worlds and a large map to explore on the Frontier side of things.
Also, the Frontier side has changed quite a bit, and an awakening of magic has happened here, along with an influx of the Starfinder races and also a good number of traditional fantasy ones. This place is a huge melting pot full of a lot of cool stuff. Since "Something Has Happened" there are also strange magical ruins and other unexplained remnants of lost civilizations and unexplained places on the Frontier side - this is related to the events in the campaign, and it makes the Frontier side a more interesting place to adventure since the "melding" has pulled in bits and pieces of lost civilizations from all across time and space into the setting.
Why?
Well, my group had a long-running Star Frontiers game and it ended when the Frontier met the Starfinder society - just after the great mental reset. The characters helped establish order and set things straight in some fun games, and then my game ended. My group broke apart and we lost players, and I am left with over 40 years of experience with the setting and a cool story to tell of what happens next. This is my own interpretation and campaign, and you are free to do your own or put your own ideas in here.
This is sort of based out of my campaign, and it is a huge "what if" the Starfinder universe crossed paths with the Frontier, and they had 300 years of mixing and strange things happening on both sides nobody can explain, but the opportunities for adventure are endless.
Why not just do pure Starfinder?
Well, I have a lot of fond memories of the Frontier, some interesting people to meet, and a story to tell. Besides, in a normal Starfinder game you could theoretically "pop in" to any established sci-fi universe, so the central concept is there. This just ties them together a bit more tightly with a story and setup that gives you the best of both galaxies, and lets you revisit some familiar (but now changed) places along the way.
